Clubs and Organizations

Northland strongly supports student participation in professional service organizations and honor societies. Because of this support the clubs and organizations at Northland have a range of goals including academic, social, athletic, and awareness raising.

East Grand Forks

Ambassadors

The Northland Ambassadors are students who are chosen to introduce prospective students to the college campus by providing tours, current-student to prospective-student visits, and introducing visitors to faculty, staff and students. Ambassadors play an important role during New Student Orientation. They serve as group leaders for new students and assist them in getting acquainted with college procedures and to feel comfortable in their new surroundings. Ambassadors also serve as hosts for special functions on campus, as well as represent the College at off-campus events. Students interested in being an Ambassador.

Athletics

Northland is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and is assigned to Region XIII, which consists of two-year colleges from Minnesota, upper Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Northland is also a member of the Minnesota Community College Conference, along with most two-year colleges in the State of Minnesota.

Students from both campuses may be qualified to participate in the intercollegiate Pioneer Athletic program, based on their eligibility. For women, there is basketball, golf, fast-pitch softball and volleyball; for men, there is basketball, baseball, football and golf.

The Thief River Falls campus hosts all Pioneer athletic facilities. Northland features one of the best gymnasiums in the state with new lighting, carpeted and fully-equipped locker rooms, and a modern athletic training room. The Multi-Events Center, which opened in 2000, has an exceptional football stadium, running track, eight softball fields, two soccer fields and state-of-the-art locker rooms. The College also has modern baseball fields and a partnership with the Thief River Falls Golf Club.

Auto Technology Club

Membership is open to students currently enrolled in the automotive service technology programs. Club activities include visits and tours of area businesses. Members have opportunities to meet professionals in the business and build their résumé.

Cardiovascular Technology Invasive Club

Carpentry Club

Students enrolled in the Carpentry Program are eligible to become members of the Carpentry Student Chapter Club. Students have opportunities to visit and tour area businesses and meet members of the FORX Builders Association.

Construction Electricity Club

Membership is open to students enrolled in the Construction Electricity Program at Northland. This professional club is a great way to meet professionals in the field of construction electricity.

EPIC Pride

EPIC Pride stands for equality, perseverance, individuality, and compassion.

The purpose of this organization is to foster an inclusive, safe, active, and diverse environment within our club, on the Northland Community and Technical College- East Grand Forks (NCTC-EGF) campus and in the surrounding community. E.P.I.C. Pride is a safe zone for all LGBTQA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Ally) students and is open to all students.

MultiCultural Club

The Multicultural Club assists students in understanding and celebrating diversity. Students get the opportunity to learn more about the traditions, beliefs, and lifestyles of different cultures. NCTC seeks to promote an appreciation of cultural diversity and ethnicity on our campuses and throughout the communities.

Music

Musical activities at NCTC offer the student an opportunity to participate in a variety of activities. Students from the EGF campus can get involved in the following TRF campus musical activities: Private Vocal & Instrument Lessons, Choir & Band Small Groups, Chamber Choir, Community Choir, Music Theater, Jazz Band, Community Band. Students study and perform music ranging from classical to modern, and in all degrees of difficulty. Concerts are presented throughout the fall and spring semesters. Concert tours are often scheduled in the spring and summer semester.

Nursing Association Club

The purpose of this organization is to provide students who are interested in supporting health promotion and prevention at NCTC with a structure to accomplish that activity. Members will also participate in an annual trip to St. Paul to take part in statewide education and lobbying efforts.

Occupational Therapy Club

Students enrolled in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program are eligible to become members of the Occupational Therapy Assistant Club. The Club is a great opportunity to work with professionals in the field.

Pharmacy Club

Membership in the Pharmacy Club is extended to students enrolled in the Pharmacy Program. The purpose is to promote awareness, work with businesses and the community, and provide student-members with networking and resume opportunities.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)

Phi Theta Kappa is recognized by the America Association of Community and Junior Colleges as the official honor society of two-year colleges. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa recognizes the academic achievement of students and provides them opportunities for developing leadership and service and for continuing academic excellence on the local, regional and national levels.

All full-time and part-time students are eligible and invited to join after they have completed 16 credit hours, have maintained a minimum of 3.5 GPA, and be carrying a credit load of at least 12 credits. Students must be of good moral character and possess recognized qualities of citizenship to be invited. Invitations are extended during fall and spring semester.

The Radiological Tech SA Club welcomes members who are enrolled in the Radiologic Technology Program.

Red, White, & Blue Club (RWB)

The Northland Red, White, and Blue Blue raises awareness for veterans in our school and community by sponsoring events and doing community service projects. We offer support for current and retired military along with family of service members. We welcome anyone who wants to be apart of our growing organization.

Scrap Club

The Northland Scrap Club is open to students who enjoy scrap booking, being creative or want to try something new. Yearly activities include field trips, workshops, special projects and community service.

Student Senate

The East Grand Forks Student Senate serves to organize and stimulate activities within the student body for the broader College community. This goal is achieved both through direct involvement in organizing events as well as through the support of other campus student organizations and clubs which directly sponsor and organize events. The Student Senate also serves as the means for students to become involved in issues and decision-making on matters affecting student life and government at the local campus level, as well as the state and national levels. Students interested in being active in their college community are invited to participate in Student Senate meetings and to become active with the Student Senate or other student organizations and clubs. The Student Senate on the East Grand Forks campus also acts in the capacity of the Student Life Committee.

Thought Club

Thought Club is the Philosophy Club at NCTC. We provide a forum for students to engage in the examination of issues and questions central to living an informed and complete human life. Such issues and questions cover the full scope of human experience, from gender to religion, from biology to mythology, from questions of value to questions of fact. Acivities include hosting films and documentaries on campus, and our annual outdoor music festival, The Town Square Sound Fair. Everyone is welcome!

Welding Club

Students enrolled in the welding programs on both campuses are invited to join the Welding Club. Instructors take students on visits of prominent area businesses, and members have the opportunity to learn more about their field.

Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (P.A.M.A.)

The Professional Aviation Maintenance Association or P.A.M.A. club is an organization designed to give students of Northland a better understanding of the aviation maintenance career field. The members are given a chance to tour maintenance facilities in the local area to broaden their horizons on the different aspects of aviation. P.A.M.A. also builds aviation projects for fund-raising purposes as well as volunteers in the community. Membership is open to all students at Northland. P.A.M.A. is also a national organization.

Intramurals

Becoming involved in the intramural program is an excellent way to make your college experience at NCTC memorable. Intramural sports are offered on both campuses and can provide organized competition and fun. Such intramural activities include: bowling, 3-on-3 basketball, 5-on-5 basketball, golf, soccer, volleyball and much more. Most students compete in intramurals as a way to stay active an involved. It is also a great way to meet people, make friends, and relieve stress.

Martial Arts Organization

The Northland Martial Arts Organization is available for students to continue to develop their martial arts skills and increase their understanding and knowlege of the traditional Japanese martial arts beyond what they learn in the regular campus martial arts class. Students have the opportunity to train in a number of different martial art styles, as well as testing for asian accredited ranks registered through our sponsoring organization, Juko Kai International.

MultiCultural Club

The Multicultural Club assists students in understanding and celebrating diversity. Students get the opportunity to learn more about the traditions, beliefs, and lifestyles of different cultures. Nursing Association Club

The Northland College Student Nurses' Association's (NCSNA) purpose is to provide students, who are interested in supporting health promotion and prevention at Northland, with a structure to accomplish that activity. Members of the NCSNA participate in community service activities such as health fairs or flu vaccination clinics.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)

Phi Theta Kappa is recognized by the America Association of Community and Junior Colleges as the official honor society of two-year colleges. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa recognizes the academic achievement of students and provides them opportunities for developing leadership and service and for continuing academic excellence on the local, regional and national levels.

Student Senate

Serving with student government, or as a member of Student Senate, is the ideal way to develop personal leadership skills. Student Senate is composed of the president, vice president and elected representatives of the student body. The objectives of the Student Senate are to represent the student body and affiliated organizations in all matters of mutual concern, to provide social and cultural activities for the student body, to establish a calendar of events that will act as a guide for the student center and student life during the school year, to act as an advocate between the administration and student body, to act as a final authority in disputes between students and the student organization on matters pertaining to the welfare of the student body, and to insure student representation on all committees which, by their purpose, will affect students at NCTC.

Northland Student Welders Association

The purpose of the Welding Club is to promote welding to interested students and community members through various College and community activities at Northland Community and Technical College.

Northland Visual History Club

The Visual History Club is designed to promote an interest in history by bringing history alive for students and community members through the creation of visual displays and serve as a channel between students, local museums, and community members so that history is accessible to more people.
